Shruti tells us what her Master of Business Administration (MBA) with Placement Year at Kingston University London involves and offers her advice to others
Why did you choose Kingston University?
I selected Kingston University because of its reputation for bridging the gap between advanced academic theory and high-level professional practice. I was looking for a programme that offered more than just classroom learning; I needed a strategic launchpad for my career.

How are you funding your course?
I viewed this MBA as a significant investment in my future, which I funded through a combination of personal savings and a student loan. This balanced financial strategy has allowed me to fully immerse myself in the academic and professional development opportunities the course provides.
I maintained financial discipline by working part time alongside my studies. This required rigorous time management but was a valuable experience that helped me sharpen my organisational skills while maintaining financial stability.
How is the course structured and assessed?
The course is structured to facilitate deep learning and mastery of complex business concepts. Modules are typically taught intensively over one or two weeks, followed by a dedicated period for absorption and completing assignments. I found this immersive structure incredibly effective, as it allowed me to focus on one discipline at a time, ensuring I could produce high-quality work and truly master the material before progressing.
What do you enjoy the most about the course?
The defining highlight of the programme was the Management Consultancy Project. This module transitions us from students to consultants, requiring us to solve live business challenges for real organisations over three months. I had the privilege of working with the Vehicle Certification Agency, where my team and I delivered a comprehensive business solution. I was incredibly proud to receive the highest grade for this project, a distinct achievement that validated my ability to apply MBA strategies in a real-world context.
Transitioning from an international student to a professional securing a placement was a significant leap, made possible by the rigorous preparation and networking opportunities the university provided.
What has your Kingston experience been like so far?
It has been nothing short of transformative. Kingston fosters a high-calibre intellectual environment where I have connected with a diverse network of ambitious peers from various business backgrounds. The atmosphere is professional and inspiring, constantly pushing me to elevate my own thinking and leadership style.

I must specifically thank Samar, Pauline, and Amanda, whose expert guidance and unwavering belief in my potential helped me navigate the complexities of the course and secure my top grades. Their mentorship has been a cornerstone of my academic excellence here.
What are your plans after graduation?
I'm currently excelling in my placement year, working in brand and marketing for Barhi Meads. My immediate goal is to leverage the skills I gained at Kingston to grow within the company and take on more leadership responsibilities. Long term, I plan to continue expanding my professional network and surround myself with like-minded innovators who challenge me to achieve more.
What advice would you give to others considering an MBA?
Take the risk and bet on yourself. The environment at Kingston is designed to support high achievers, but you must be willing to step out of your comfort zone to reap the rewards. I travelled across the world to study here, and because I leaned into the support of the amazing faculty and took every opportunity offered, I have built a powerful network, learned invaluable skills, and landed a fantastic placement.
